Sushi of Gari on 402 E. 78th Between 1st and York Ave.

Yes Yes, I know it has been a long time since I posted anything on this barely read blog, but hey I can't go out all the time now. Moving on, I had dinner last night as Sushi of Gari and it was my first time there. A friend of mine suggested the restaurant. At first glance it looked like a normal sushi restaurant. They had their tables and the sushi bar where you would see the chefs work their magic. I wasn't impressed with the decor, but I wasn't disappointed either. Since we were both new to the restaurant we went with the "Omakase". For those that don't know what that is, it means "It's up to you" for a rough translation or to "entrust". Basically you leave it to the chef to surprise you with his choice of making. The originality was very refreshing and unique. It was not like the usual sushi restaurant places I've been to or what other people would be more familiar with. My friend described it as "Modern Sushi" and I think that pretty much is the best way I would also describe it. The sushi was really good for the most part with a few minor exceptions. I myself, would like to point out that the squid was less than appetizing for me. To be honest I would have really liked to put more information on which pieces were really good and which weren't. However, due to the lack of communication and understanding of our server's English, we failed to understand most of what he/she was saying while explaining the sushi to us. As far as pricing goes it would be moderate to expensive. For those who love sushi, I would recommend this to try it as it is something new. If you want to come back or not that is up to you. The restaurant is located at 402 E. 78th Street, between 1st and York. It really is just near the corner of 1st Ave, so 78th and 1st would be sufficient if your taking a cab.
